Welcome! LEEM is a powerful new tool for energy managers to track, control and reduce emissions of mercury, carbon and other pollutants that result from consumption of electricity.
LEEM, or Locational Emissions Estimation Methodology, is a big data emissions estimation product developed by researchers at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
What does LEEM do? For the first time, LEEM reveals the emissions generated by electricity consumed at specific locations and at specific times. Emissions estimated include carbon, mercury, SOx, NOx, and lead. Currently LEEM emission-intensity data is available in 18 states, and the WSU team is driven by the vision of providing Environmentally Sensitive Electricity (ESE) Everywhere. See the videos below for a fuller introduction to LEEM.
LEEM determines the user’s location and employs a sophisticated algorithm to:
LEEM automatically tracks, organizes, normalizes, analyzes, and reports location-specific, real-time and forecasted marginal emissions information that empowers utility services, energy users, data and energy management firms, government, and individuals to predict emission levels and estimate costs over time, enabling better, more informed energy and emission management decisions for the future.
The technology of LEEM has the power to support commercial needs and also provides flexible access for the needs of communities and individuals through applications such as:
Energy Emissions Intelligence Inc (www.e2intel.com), is the commercial arm of the LEEM team and provides LEEM emission-intensity data for energy managers, energy management system developers and users, smart devices and a range of other applications.
